Financial Assistance (Stipends)

Graduate Studies

Applications for graduate studies in the Department of Oncology can be completed online. The minimal requirements for Canadian applicants is a B.Sc. degree or equivalent with a minimum B+ average (G.P.A. of 7 on a 9 point scale or 3.3 on a 4.0 scale). International students are required to have a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (written-based testing), 250 (computer-based testing), or 100 (Internet-based testing), or an IELTS average score of at least 7 with a score of at least 6 in each of the four modules that include listening, academic writing, academic reading and speaking.

In addition to meeting the admission requirements, it is recommended that the applicant examine the research programs of members who have graduate student positions available in their research laboratories. If one or more research programs is of particular interest, this should be indicated on the application. The applicant is also advised to contact members directly and indicate their interest in graduate training in his/her laboratory.

The Department of Oncology will provide travel funds for exceptional students who apply to the graduate program. Please indicate if you are interested in visiting the Department of Oncology when you apply to the program.

For the academic year 2007-2008, graduate students received a minimum stipend of $23,000 per annum.  Like all Canadian institutions, health coverage for international students and Canadian students is provided by the government to all members of society. Students are required to pay their own tuition. In addition to stipends paid from research grants or recipients of national or provincial studentship awards, a number of studentships are available only or preferentially to Oncology students.

Endowed Studentship in Oncology- $19,500 + tuition + $1500 research allowance

Translational Research Training Program Studentship-$19,500
