Sheena MacLeod, B. Sc., Graduate Student

I receive my B.Sc. degree from the University of Alberta, in Honors Pharmacology. During this time, I completed two research projects in the Gati lab related to nucleoside transporters and leukemia. I also worked for Isotechnika, Inc. for a summer in the drug discovery department and for a year after convocation on projects related to drug metabolism.

I am currently a PhD candidate in the Hitt lab. My project is related to targeting adenoviruses to breast cancer. Adenoviruses normally bind to the receptors CAR and αV-Integrin on the surface of cells. This project involves genetically modifying the viruses to bind to receptors in the EGFR family, since these receptors are often overexpressed in breast cancer, and testing the binding and uptake of retargeted adenoviruses.
