I convocated from the University
of Saskatchewan in 2007 with an Honors degree in the fields of
Microbiology and Biochemistry. Following graduation, I was employed
at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Upon
moving to Edmonton I joined Dr. Mary Hitt’s lab in the Department of
Oncology as a research technician.
My most recent project involves
Src and STAT3 gene silencing in ZR75 breast cancer cells using an
engineered microRNA gene cluster. The efficiency of knockdown is
monitored using Western Blotting, Northern Blotting and RT-PCR techniques and visualization by
chemiluminescence. As well, work on a number of subcloning projects
for the creation of new reporter and inducible plasmids has been
undertaken. These are used in a variety of experimental procedures
that include confocal microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, transient
transfections, etc.
